Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Arsenal

A top-four race in the Premier League is heating up as Wolverhampton Wanderers welcome Arsenal to Molineux Stadium.

It has been one hell of a start to the new calendar year for Wolverhampton, as they’ve won all three Premier League fixtures by an aggregate score of 6-2. Another success here would see Wolves start a new calendar year with four consecutive top-flight victories for the first time since 1983. However, Wolves’ four-game home form in the Premier League reads indifferently (W1, D2, L1), while they succumbed to a 1-0 loss to relegation-battling Norwich City in the FA Cup last time out. Yet, the ‘Wanderers’ can draw confidence from their recent H2H home record against Arsenal, with just one defeat from their previous three top-flight showdowns at Molineux (W2). But Bruno Lage’s men will have to make the most out of their chances if they are to maintain that trend, having attempted 10+ shots on goal in just four of their last 16 Premier League outings.

On the other hand, Arsenal have experienced a thoroughly disappointing start to the new calendar year, going winless in all five matches across all competitions (D2, L3), including a dismal ‘nil-nil’ draw with rock-bottom Burnley last time out. What’s more, the ‘Gunners’ have failed to find the back of the net in four competitive games in a row going into this clash and could make it five scoring blanks on the spin for the first time since March 1990. Against this backdrop, Mikel Arteta’s men have netted nine goals across their last two Premier League travels (W2), three more than they had in their opening eight road trips in the competition. After losing this exact fixture 2-1 back in the 2020/21 campaign, Arsenal stare at the prospect of suffering back-to-back away league defeats to Wolves for the first time since February 1975.
