Toulouse vs Montpellier

Stadium de Toulouse is the venue as Toulouse and Montpellier go head-to-head in a mid-table Ligue 1 encounter.

Despite almost certainly avoiding relegation from Ligue 1 off the back of a five-game unbeaten league run (W2, D3), Toulouse can’t realistically hope to secure a coveted European finish unless they can win all three remaining matches. They would still need results elsewhere to go their way, but they must hold up their end of the bargain at Stadium de Toulouse, where they’ve picked up just 16 of their 40 Ligue 1 points this season (40%). Terminally incapable of scoring before the break, Carles Martínez Novell’s men have failed to get on the scoresheet in 11 of their 15 home league outings, a record only worsened by one side. With that in mind, it’s not surprising they’ve won none of their last three home fixtures in Ligue 1 (D2, L1).

On the other hand, only two points away from securing their 16th season in Ligue 1, visiting Montpellier head into proceedings in a buoyant mood after going unbeaten in their last five league games (W3, D2) since a 6-2 demolition to PSG in mid-March. Four of Montpellier’s five league matches in the post-international break have featured under 2.5 goals, highlighting the potential for a low-scoring contest. Against this backdrop, their last two top-flight visits to Toulouse have produced 3+ goals (W1, L1), with ‘La Palliade’ netting 2+ goals on both occasions. Despite only winning once in five league visits to Toulouse since October 2015 (D1, L3), they’ll seek a better result this time, inspired by a four-game unbeaten run on the road (W3, D1).
