Switzerland vs Denmark

St. Gallen’s Kybunpark forms the backdrop for a high-stakes UEFA Nations League meeting between Switzerland and Denmark.

Switzerland could be on course to relinquish their League A status for the first time since the tournament’s inception in 2018 after a disheartening 2-0 defeat to Serbia last weekend left them pointless after three Group A4 matches (L3). Another loss, coupled with Serbia’s unlikely win against Spain, would seal the Swiss’ fate with two matches to spare as they commence this round four points adrift of the third-placed Serbs. Murat Yakin’s side will be desperate to hold up their end of the bargain despite their dreadful overall H2H record against Denmark (W1, D7, L3). An underwhelming four-game losing streak doesn’t bode well either, though the hosts can take heart from going unbeaten in ten of their last 11 outings on home soil (W6, D4).

As for Denmark, conceding a controversial late goal in Spain last weekend halted their flawless record in Group A4 (W2). Before a narrow 1-0 loss in the Iberian Peninsula, the visitors had posted back-to-back 2-0 wins against Serbia and Switzerland to bolster their chances of reaching the newly formatted Nations League quarter-finals. Caretaker manager Lars Knudsen can fall back on the promising fact that the Danes have never lost back-to-back Nations League fixtures. To keep it that way, Denmark would likely have to get three points on the board, given that none of their last 13 outings in this competition have ended all square (W9, L4). Interestingly, the seven most recent results have yielded identical 2-0 or 2-1 scorelines.
