Romania vs Montenegro

Stadionul Giuleşti – Valentin Stănescu is the venue as Romania and Montenegro battle it out for promotion in a highly-competitive UEFA Nations League Group B3.

After suffering back-to-back defeats ‘to nil’ at the beginning of their 2022/23 Nations League journey, Romania eked out a 1-0 home triumph over Finland last time out. Despite taking the field rooted to the foot of Group B3, the Romanians are still in contention for a top-place finish, with section-leaders Bosnia & Herzegovina only two points clear. However, Romania’s home form will unlikely inspire the hosts’ bid to win back-to-back internationals for the first time since September 2021. Before beating Finland, they were winless in two home games (D1, L1), failing to score in each. Additionally, the ‘Tricolours’ have only won one of their five competitive meetings with Montenegro (D2, L2), scoring a measly average of 0.4 goals per match.

Meanwhile, Montenegro fought back to hold Bosnia to a 1-1 draw last time out, living up to the billing as one of the most inconsistent European sides. An indifferent three-match start to the new Nations League campaign (W1, D1, L1) leaves the ‘Brave Falcons’ with realistic chances to qualify for League A, with pacesetters Bosnia within a one-point distance. However, Montenegro’s poor away form could pose a threat to the visitors’ hopes of beating Romania for the second time this month following a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture. Indeed, Miodrag Radulovic’s men have suffered four defeats in their last five away internationals (W1), drawing a blank in each reverse.
