RB Leipzig vs Augsburg

RB Leipzig and Augsburg are set to trade tackles at the Red Bull Arena in a high-stake Bundesliga fixture for the hosts.

Leipzig will take the field with their confidence at a brand-new low after Rangers’ 3-1 home win in the return leg of their Europa League semi-final tie denied their first-ever appearance in a major European final. Moreover, after going from three consecutive Bundesliga victories to back-to-back league defeats, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ need all three points here to leapfrog fourth-placed Freiburg ahead of the final weekend. A 2-1 reverse to Union Berlin in their most recent home league outing spoiled Leipzig’s run of six undefeated league matches at the Red Bull Arena (W4, D2). There’s a reason for optimism, though, as Domenico Tedesco’s men are unbeaten in their last ten competitive meetings with Augsburg (W7, D3).

As for Augsburg, a return of one win from their last four Bundesliga matches (L3) could prove enough to extend their top-flight status for another season if they stay unbeaten here. Easier said than done, as they are winless in all five previous Bundesliga visits to Leipzig (D1, L4), their lowest points average away from home against any side in the competition (0.2 per match). Augsburg conceded 2+ goals in all four defeats in that five-game sequence, which has been the case in four of their last seven Bundesliga away fixtures. Yet, the visitors will draw confidence from scoring in six of those seven travels.
