PSV Eindhoven vs Augsburg

WM Estriche Area Schladming is the venue as PSV Eindhoven and Augsburg trade tackles in an exciting summer friendly.

PSV Eindhoven’s pre-season tour started with a whimper rather than a bang as they slumped to a 2-1 loss to St Truiden in their first summer friendly before ousting BW Linz via that same scoreline last time out. The ‘Peasants’ are still a work in progress after Peter Bosz took charge of the team from Ruud van Nistelrooy, who left the managerial post in the wake of last season’s runner-up Eredivisie finish. In addition to the Dutchman’s departure, PSV lost their headline performer Xavi Simons to his former employers Paris Saint-Germain. Left with a gaping void in the front third, PSV might not be overly enthusiastic about their effort to find the net against Augsburg after back-to-back failed attempts (D1, L1).

Despite going unbeaten in both previous H2Hs (W1, D1), Augsburg only netted once in those encounters. That is in stark contrast to their recent scoring exploits as they’ve bagged 6+ goals in two of their three pre-season friendlies (W2, D1), though it’s worth noting that both those matches came against sub-par rivals. The 2022/23 Bundesliga couldn’t have ended soon enough for the ‘Fuggerstädter,’ considering they sealed top-flight survival by the skin of their teeth, finishing a point clear of the dreaded relegation playoff spot. On top of that, they dropped the curtain on their wayward domestic campaign with three consecutive league defeats by an aggregate score of 8-2, with two of those losses coming by 2+ goals ‘to nil.’
