Peterborough United vs Manchester City

Manchester City head to the Weston Homes Stadium to take on the second-tier side Peterborough United in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Since toppling fellow Championship rivals QPR 2-0 in the previous FA Cup round, Peterborough have gone winless in their last six league matches in a row (D1, L5), failing to get on the scoresheet five times in the process. What’s more, the ‘Posh’ are winless in their last three home outings (D1, L1), drawing a blank on each occasion. Peterborough, who already look like a doomed outfit here, are warm relegation candidates to suffer Championship relegation this term as they currently sit bottom of the table. Their first encounter against Man City since February 1981 doesn’t offer much comfort, with Peterborough sustaining a 1-0 defeat in the FA Cup fifth round in their only previous competitive H2H.

Meanwhile, Manchester City squeezed past Everton 1-0 at the weekend in a Premier League fixture highlighted by another VAR controversy to bounce back from a 3-2 home defeat to Tottenham. But the ‘Cityzens’ have been nothing short of outstanding in the FA Cup this season, overcoming Swindon Town and Fulham in the last two rounds by the same 4-1 scoreline. Hot favourites to reach the quarter-finals, Man City have won each of their last 11 FA Cup encounters against lower-league opponents, netting an impressive average of 3.66 goals per match in the period. In fact, since Pep Guardiola arrived at the helm in 2106, only Manchester United (5) have reached more FA Cup quarter-finals than Man City (4).
