Norwich City vs Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to seal qualification for next season’s Champions League when they take on dead-last Norwich City at Carrow Road on the final Premier League weekend.

Norwich have already confirmed their reputation as a ‘yo-yo’ club, having suffered relegation from the Premier League with a few games to spare. A 1-1 draw away to Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out has halted Norwich’s underwhelming run of five consecutive Premier League defeats, four of which saw the ‘Canaries’ concede 3+ goals. Even though manager Dean Smith has tried to encourage his side ahead of the season finale, Norwich’s dismal record of one win from their last nine Premier League games against Tottenham (D3, L5) suggests they have nothing to hope for here. However, there’s still a piece of history open for the taking, as Norwich could become the 23rd different side to hit a 100-win landmark in the Premier League, though that prospect looks a bit far-fetched.

In the meantime, fourth-placed Tottenham head into proceedings in firm control of the Champions League destiny, as they hold a two-point lead on fifth-placed Arsenal and need to stay unbeaten to return to Europe’s elite competition for the first time since 2019/20. Since a lacklustre 1-0 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in mid-April, ‘Spurs’ have gone unbeaten in their last five Premier League fixtures (W3, D2), winning the last two in a row, including a season-defining 3-0 triumph over Arsenal. Yet, it’s worth noting that Antonio Conte’s men have gone from winning back-to-back away league games to drawing their last two on the road, both of which featured under 2.5 total goals. Tottenham carry a reputation as the ‘season-finale specialists,’ as they’ve lost their final league match in just one of the last 11 campaigns (W8, D2), courtesy of a 5-1 downing at already-relegated Newcastle United in 2015/16.
