Deportivo Alaves vs Girona

Estadio Mendizorrotza is the venue as Deportivo Alaves and Girona go head-to-head in a high-stakes La Liga clash.

Deportivo Alaves’ form dwindled toward the end of 2024 as they only won once in their last 12 La Liga outings (D4, L7). As a result, they head into the new calendar year only two points clear of the bottom three. However, more optimistic home fans would like to think four consecutive league draws are a sign of improvement, even though three of them came against fellow bottom-half rivals. Another stalemate is on the cards, considering Eduardo Coudet’s men have fought back from a losing position to secure a draw in two of their last three H2H meetings with Girona at home (W1, D2). ‘El Glorioso’ have fared reasonably well on home turf this season, losing just two of their nine top-flight fixtures at Estadio Mendizorrotza (W3, D3).

On the other hand, Girona capped off a memorable 2024 on a high, dismantling relegation-threatened Valladolid 3-0 at home to arrest a four-game losing streak in all competitions. Back-to-back league wins for the first time since November aren’t beyond Girona’s capacities, yet they’ve not impressed on the road this term. Indeed, Michel’s men have only won two of their nine away league games (D3, L4), beating Getafe and Sevilla ‘to nil.’ If it’s any consolation, they’ve not lost consecutive top-flight matches on hostile turf in 2024/25, which bodes well after a 2-1 defeat at Mallorca on their last La Liga travel.
