Brighton & Hove Albion vs Liverpool

A place in the English League Cup Round of 16 is up for grabs as Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool go head-to-head at the Amex Stadiuml

After a 4-0 rout of lower-league Crawley in the opening EFL Cup round, Brighton squeezed past Wolverhampton 3-2 last time out to set up this exciting tie. However, Wolves dampened Brighton’s spirits over the weekend, overcoming a two-goal deficit to hold Fabian Hurzeler’s side to a 2-2 draw at the Amex, ending their two-game winning run in the Premier League. That didn’t change the fact a 4-2 defeat at Chelsea in late September remains Brighton’s only competitive loss in 2024/25 (W6, D4), testifying to the 31-year-old manager’s stellar work in East Sussex. Though unbeaten at the Amex this term (W4, D3), the Seagulls have alternated between drawing (3) and winning (3) in their last six outings on home turf.

In the meantime, Liverpool had to fight back twice to hold Arsenal to a dramatic 2-2 draw at the weekend for their first stalemate under new manager Arne Slot (W11, L1). That result knocked them down from a phenomenal eight-game winning streak in all competitions, during which they hammered West Ham 5-1 in this competition despite conceding an early opener. Interestingly, the draw in North London marked the first time that the Reds capitulated more than once per game under Jurgen Klopp’s successor, highlighting their notable defensive improvement compared to last season. But it’s worth noting that they have conceded multiple goals on their three most recent visits to Brighton (D1, L2).
