Brighton & Hove Albion vs Arsenal
One of the most exciting matches in the opening Premier League weekend of 2025 pits Brighton & Hove Albion and Arsenal against each other at the Amex Stadium.
Despite holding Aston Villa to a goal-glutted 2-2 draw in their last Premier League outing in 2024, Brighton enter the new calendar year amid a seven-game winless league streak (D5, L2). Manager Fabian Hurzeler risks losing further ground on the European spots unless he halts Brighton’s longest top-flight run without winning since 2021. The impending return to East Sussex can’t inspire much optimism, given the Seagulls have only won three of their nine Premier League home games this season (D5, L1). Furthermore, they’ve lost three of their last four league meetings with Arsenal at the Amex (D1), ominously failing to get on the scoresheet on three occasions! By contrast, Brighton had scored in eight consecutive home matches in all competitions before a tepid 0-0 draw against Brentford last time out.
Meanwhile, Arsenal fought back from an early deficit to beat the Bees 3-1 in their last league outing, extending their imperious unbeaten streak in all competitions to 12 games (W9, D3). Three successive victories in the Premier League have propelled them within a six-point distance of table-topping Liverpool, reigniting the club’s hopes of ending a two-decade title drought in England’s top flight. Mikel Arteta’s men have enjoyed a significant uptick in away form. After blowing hot and cold across their opening six Premier League road trips of 2024/25 (W2, D2, L2), they’ve racked up three wins in their last four away matches (D1), netting at least three goals in each triumph.
