Belgium vs Azerbaijan

King Baudouin Stadium is the venue as Azerbaijan’s visit to Brussels drops the curtain on Belgium’s successful Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.

It took Belgium only 61 seconds into their midweek friendly against Serbia to take the lead through Yannick Carrasco, which proved to be the final score (1-0), setting up nicely for their last Euro 2024 qualifier. Despite securing their place at next summer’s tournament in Germany with matches to spare, Domenic Tedesco’s side won’t take this clash lightly, knowing a win here would guarantee them a top-place finish in Group F ahead of Austria. Not only are ‘De Rode Duivels’ unbeaten in all five previous meetings with Azerbaijan (W4, D1), including a narrow 1-0 win in the reverse fixture in September, but they’ve also avoided defeat in their last six home outings (W4, D2).

On the other hand, Azerbaijan’s hopes of making it to a major tournament for the first time as an independent nation have gone in the wind despite winning twice in their last three qualifying games (L1), including an outstanding 3-0 home thumping of Sweden in midweek. But barring a 2-0 win over Baltic minnows Estonia, the visitors have lost both remaining away matches in Group F via at least a three-goal margin, conceding 2+ second-half goals on each occasion. Even though they’ve never beaten Belgium, expect ‘Team Melli’ to put up a fight after capitulating just once in three of their five previous H2Hs, including the last two in a row.
