Bayern Munich vs Union Berlin

Allianz Arena is the venue as Bayern Munich and Union Berlin lock horns in a top-four Bundesliga six-pointer.

After finally losing their stranglehold on the Bundesliga title last term, Bayern Munich have gone from strength to strength at the start of the new campaign, entering Round 9 as one of only two sides yet to lose a league match (W6, D2). Sat atop the league standings alongside RB Leipzig, who head to Borussia Dortmund for a blockbuster clash, Vincent Kompany’s men could go alone at the summit with a fourth consecutive top-flight triumph against Union Berlin. The Bavarians have excelled after a disturbing 4-1 UEFA Champions League defeat at Barcelona, winning back-to-back domestic fixtures against Stuttgart and Mainz by 4+ goals ‘to nil.’ A 4-0 thrashing of Stuttgart has taken Bayern’s outstanding goal tally on home turf to 16 in just four competitive outings this season.

On the other hand, Union Berlin’s form blipped after two consecutive Bundesliga wins against Dortmund and Holstein Kiel as Eintracht Frankfurt held them to a 1-1 draw last weekend before third-tier Arminia Bielefeld crashed them out of the DFB-Pokal. Despite those setbacks, the visitors occupy a commendable fourth place in the Bundesliga at the start of this round after only losing once in the first eight games (W4, D3). However, they’ve traveled poorly, with a 2-0 win at newly promoted Kiel on their last league trip ending a three-match winless away start (D2, L1). Those four games all featured under 2.5 goals, highlighting the potential for alow-scoring encounter.
