Arsenal vs Luton Town

Arsenal’s bid to dethrone Manchester City continues at the Emirates Stadium as they take on hot Premier League relegation candidates Luton Town.

Despite falling two points behind Premier League pacesetters Liverpool after renouncing an eight-game winning league start to 2024 during Easter Sunday’s showdown against Manchester City (0-0), Arsenal’s pursuit of their first top-flight title in two decades is still on. Mikel Arteta’s side lamented just 27% possession at the Etihad Stadium, but they’ve claimed a second consecutive shutout following a 1-0 home win over Porto in the Champions League. The Gunners have fared impressively at the Emirates Stadium, especially against newly-promoted clubs, going unbeaten in their last 38 such fixtures (W33, D5). That increases the likelihood of Arsenal’s sixth consecutive home win in all competitions as they bid to complete a league double against Luton after a late 4-3 win at Kenilworth Road in December.

Keen to throw a spanner in Arsenal’s title quest, Luton return to London after a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham last weekend, which extended their winless Premier League run to nine matches (D3, L6). Rob Edwards’ men head into proceedings as underdogs, not least because of their dreadful away league record against Arsenal (D1, L10). They’ve ominously conceded 2+ goals in each encounter, which has been the case in four of their last five Premier League travels (D2, L3). Luton’s form struggles on the road are long-standing, with only rock-bottom Sheffield United (6) picking up fewer away points than the Hatters’ ten, highlighting the skepticism surrounding the traveling camp. Moreover, they’ve conceded a league-high 36 Premier League goals on hostile turf.
