Suwon vs Daegu

Suwon’s effort to recuperate from last weekend’s gut-wrenching loss brings K League 1 underachievers Daegu to Suwon Sports Complex.

It seems like avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth last term taught Suwon a valuable lesson, as they’ve started the new campaign on a more positive note (W6, D3, L5). Though a narrow 1-0 defeat at Jeju United knocked them down from a two-game winning run, they return home in high spirits, knowing three of their last five league outings at this venue have ended in victories (L2). But the upcoming opposition has been their kryptonite. The hosts have only managed one triumph in 11 home H2Hs across all competitions since May 2014 (W1, D4, L5). While the results have not gone their way, the crowd has often been in for a thriller, with five of the last six meetings between these teams at Suwon Sports Complex featuring over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring.

Adding to the possibility of another high-scoring affair, five Daegu’s last six league matches have followed the abovementioned theme, including a 2-1 victory at Seoul on their most recent travel. However, that success only softened the blow of Daegu’s dismal away form since the start of the season, marking only their second triumph on seven league trips in 2024 (D2, L3). What’s striking is the visitors’ tremendous bounce-back capacity. Despite conceding first in five of their seven away games, only two such fixtures have seen them beaten (W1, D2, L2). It has everything to do with Daegu’s tendency to put their feet on the gas after the break, resulting in six of their eight away league goals this season coming in the second half.
