Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt

A fierce battle for the European spots in the Bundesliga is heating up as Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt go head-to-head at Signal Iduna Park.

Borussia Dortmund maintained their dream of bringing home continental silverware alive with a 2-0 victory against PSV Eindhoven in midweek Champions League action to make it to the quarter-finals. Since that’s their only chance to avoid a trophyless campaign, Edin Terzic’s men might sacrifice their domestic ambitions, particularly in light of RB Leipzig’s resurgence. Back-to-back away league wins have fired Die Borussen back into contention for a top-four finish, moving them within two points of fourth-placed Leipzig. With a game in hand, they seem well-positioned to secure another top-four finish. However, a 3-2 defeat to TSG Hoffenheim in their last home league outing threw a spanner in the works despite marking Dortmund’s third successive Bundesliga match at Signal Iduna Park in which they’ve scored 2+ goals.

Dortmund’s free-scoring home form is not what visiting Frankfurt would want to hear, especially after conceding 4+ goals in three of their last four visits to Signal Iduna Park (W1, L3). Stranded seven points adrift of their hopes, the visitors desperately need to replicate a 2-1 win here in April 2021 to reignite their top-four hopes. Die Adler can fall back on their five-match unbeaten league run (W2, D3), having won the last two, including a 3-1 win against 9-man Hoffenheim in the previous round. Unfortunately, they’ve proved poor travelers, racking up just two wins on their last eight Bundesliga road trips (D3, L3). At least they’ve been fun to watch, with their four most recent away league clashes featuring an average of 3.75 goals per game (W1, D2, L1).
