Racing Club vs San Lorenzo

Racing Club and San Lorenzo are set to face off against each other in a blockbuster Liga Professional showdown at the Estadio Juan Domingo Perón.

Racing’s hot pursuit of the final Copa Sudamericana qualification spot received a boost at the weekend as they dismantled Union Santa Fe 4-0 on the road to make it six straight Primera Division matches without losing (W3, D3). But since they’ve alternated between winning and drawing during that sequence, ‘La Academia’ cannot take anything for granted. Never mind Racing’s problems with inconsistent showings – they’ve won none of their last three competitive meetings with San Lorenzo (D2, L1), failing to score before halftime twice in that period. However, manager Fernando Gago can draw confidence from overseeing three victories in Racing’s last four home outings in all competitions (D1).

Unfortunately for the home side, visiting San Lorenzo couldn’t have timed their return to prominence any better, going from six consecutive games without winning (D4, L2) to back-to-back triumphs, both of which saw them score within the first ten minutes of the second half. Yet, the visitors have stuttered on the road lately, managing just one win on their last seven travels, all competitions included (D4, L2). What’s even more ominous for ‘Los Santos’ is that they failed to get on the scoresheet in four of those seven games. Those scoring problems explain why they’ve not won any of their five away league fixtures after conceding the opener this term (D2, L3).
