RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund

Red Bull Arena plays host to a handsomely-looking DFB-Pokal quarter-final tie between RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.

RB Leipzig head into proceedings on the back of an embarrassing 3-0 home loss to Mainz at the weekend that saw them slip outside the Bundesliga top four for the first time in 2023. Marco Rose’s team cannot catch a break, having lost four of their last five competitive outings (W1), including a humiliating 7-0 demolition at the hands of Manchester City in the Champions League. ‘Die Roten Bullen’ seem to have lost their scoring touch without long-term absentee Christopher Nkunku, as witnessed by a dismal three-game goal drought in all competitions. But consiering they’ve only lost one of their last four home games (W2, D1), Leipzig will fancy their chances of continuing their DFB-Pokal title defense despite their recent form woes.

Like their hosts, Borussia Dortmund had a rough weekend as arch-rivals Bayern Munich knocked them down from the Bundesliga summit with an overwhelming 4-2 H2H victory at the Allianz Arena. That result prolonged Dortmund’s form wobble as they’ve now won just one of their last four matches in all competitions (D1, L2), conceding 2+ goals three times in the process. Things get worse on their travels, with ‘Die Borussen’ going winless on their last three competitive road trips (D1, L2), all of which saw them let in at least two goals. That’s hardly an encouraging sign for Edin Terzic’s side ahead of their trip to the Red Bull Arena, where they’ve lost their last two meetings with Leipzig by an aggregate score of 5-1.
