Bayern Munich vs Manchester City

Lambeau Field forms the backdrop for a mouth-watering pre-season friendly between perennial Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and back-to-back Premier League champions Manchester City.

Even without long-serving stalwart Robert Lewandowski, who departed the club for Barcelona, Bayern Munich thrashed MLS side DC United 6-2 in their opening summer friendly. It took former Liverpool ace Sadio Mane only five minutes into his debut to score his first goal for the ‘Bavarians,’ who won a record-extending tenth Bundesliga title last season. But before easing past DC United, Julian Nagelsamnn’s men had gone winless in three consecutive league outings (D2, L1), conceding the opener twice in that sequence. Worryingly, Bayern’s massive defensive issues have seen them let in 2+ goals in their last four matches, while only twice in their previous six had they kept a clean sheet.

In the meantime, Kevin De Bruyne’s first-half brilliance fired Manchester City to a hard-earned 2-1 win over Liga MX outfit Club America in their pre-season curtain-raiser. After missing out on City’s meeting with the Mexican powerhouse, marquee summer signing Erling Haaland could make his debut for the reigning Premier League champions. Haaland will give a new dimension to Man City’s free-scoring attack that has netted 2+ goals in ten of their last 11 games, including five in a row in the build-up to this fixture. However, holding Bayern at bay could prove daunting, with Pep Guardiola’s side failing to register a single shutout in their last four matches.
